Summer has come and gone

:(... Looks like summer is now coming to an end, and so is break time.

I've gone and had my fun for the ast couple of months, now its time to have creative fun and get back into the studio doing what I do best - MAKE. I've always loved accessories and bow clips are definitely one of them.

Here's a few of the first i'll be selling in "All Our Own Crafts"...

Watch out for more tie making using a similar breakdown printing design...

Tie making...

I finally learnt how to make a tie after i was approached by a lovely lady asking for a commission to design and make a tie for a retiring maths teacher. The design involves and infinity symbol and a mobius strip. I really enjoyed creating this piece!....

Time flies!!

It's nearly the end of June already! I've been so busy learning so many new things, i'm constantly forgetting to blog about them :(.

Good news to start of with... I finally got myself a job!... (a job relating to my degree). I'm now a textile technician at the University for the Creative Arts in Farnham. I couldn't love it more. Everyday i'm faced with different and new tasks... some challenging and others that get me quite excited (like buying new equipment!)

I'm at the university full time, inducting print students into the equipment within the studio. The inductions i've given so far have include how to coat screens, de-coating, exposing screens, different dye recipes, how to mix up print pastes, heat press use, steamer use and introductions to large scale repeat production.

I feel like part of the studio now and will be great to see so many other students progress and produce amazing textiles. One of my many goals here is to turn the studio around... update it! The place is still in 60's zone and all it needs is a bit of paint, re-organising and mostly ... love. I couldn't love this studio more as it's pretty much my second home now.

Dyeing fabric is one of my favourite things to do, i'm currently updating a couple of the dye recipe books we keeps in the department. It's so great to watch from start to finish the whole process of colour.

This week i've been updating the Remazol Black Liquid Dye book. I love to see how so many different fabric take the colour in completely different ways...

I have no doubt i'll be so busy for the next few months updating the studio!... Next week is New Designers exhibition in London where all the graduates will be showing their work.... well worth the trip, i'm looking forward to it :)

Home Sweet Home

For me, when it comes to the dye lab... I feel right at home, and I'm back in Farnham getting creating and making the best of my skills possible!

I've been extremely fortunate to be given a new stepping stone in my textile journey. For 3 months I am now the print technician at Farnham University textiles department, and I couldn't be in a better position. I am there 4 days as week as technician involving giving inductions to the students of how to use all the equipment safely, what they are used for and print processes. The job also involves general maintenance of the studio and assisting with help for 1st, 2nd and 3rd year students' practical work. I've been there 2 weeks and already I simply love the job, I feel like I can really make the most of my skills that I learnt there whilst studying.

As for my Fridays which I'm very lucky to have off, I choose to be back in the studio... an absolute must! Whilst studying at Farnham, one of the main priorities for me was to simply be in the studio everyday if possible and make use of the fantastic space and facilities the studio has to offer. Especially after not being in the studio for about 8 months, I was desperate to get back into a studio and get making! Now I have the chance to play around with new exciting designs again as well as working in a fantastic environment!

Last Friday was the day for dyeing fabric, relaxing in the dye lab and simply experimenting. I'll give this a go for a few more weeks and get a good collection to work with.

HELLO 2015!

First of all .. HAPPY NEW YEAR! ... 2014 seem to be a long one. But quite a lot has happened and I'm now ready to move on to the next one :) I said to myself that after graduating I wanted a job in textiles before Christmas.... I guess you could say I succeeded.

I had the lovely opportunity to be apart of a brand new craft shop that opened up about 3 months ago and had great lot of success! All thanks to Tracy Braybrook and Kate Donohoe :) I was able to sell some of my work which honestly I originally thought never would but being apart of that shop gave me a new faith in my work and now I feel so encouraged to keep making!

I thought I'd finally take the opportunity to mention the awesome crafters that were n the shop that everyone definitely needs to look at... everyone's work is so different but all lovely and interesting, there's something for everyone:
